The Caribbean tour is closing in for Bangladesh – there is one more series to go, the three match T20I series, the format in which the visitors are yet to gain moderate excellence.
Bangladesh need to gain momentum and pace in the shortest format of the agme. The home team, carrying 114 points, are standing at the seventh place of the ranking while Bangladesh are far beyond; at 10th place with 70 points. If the Tigers would grab at least one win in the series, they will gain added rating points.
Though not in the squad, ODI captain Mashrafe Mortaza wasn’t particularly confident when speaking ahead of the three-game series, saying: “With the T20I series coming up, it won’t be easy to play against a side like Windies.”
Skipper Shakib said, “We are very hopeful for the T20 series and the biggest reason why is that we did pretty well in the ODI format. It’s a big achievement for us to win an ODI series away from home after nine years, so I hope that this confidence will help us in the T20 format and that everyone can play with that confidence.“However we know that West Indies are a very strong team, especially in the T20 format, and it’s their most favourable format while it’s a difficult format for us. But I believe that we have the ability to play our best cricket and win the series,” he added.
The recent series win against the Windies saw senior players’ performing and delivering for the team in contrast to juniors. Juniors with the likes of Sabbir Rahman and Mosaddek Hossain failed miserably with the bat. Shakib hopes those players will shine and deliver for the team in the T20’s.
“There are quite a few players in the T20 format and it’s a very exciting time for them. At the same time it’s a good thing for the BCB and Bangladesh cricket that we are able to get a few new players in this format. As it’s a new format, I hope they will do well,” Shakib said.
Sabbir has been performing poorly for a long time. His off- field fracas with some fans is affecting his game in a negative way. Recently BCB director Akram Khan also advised him to put his complete focus on cricket. Potential wise Sabbir can be the best batsman in the Bangladesh team. If he returns to form during the T20 series, Bangladesh can hope for positive result against the Windies.
